Middle Years Programme (MYP)

Dagun International School — IB MYP Candidate School

Dagun International School is currently a Candidate School for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP).

What is the MYP?

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a challenging academic framework designed for students aged 11 to 16. It encourages learners to make strong, practical connections between their classroom studies and real-world situations.

The MYP is typically a five-year programme, though it can also be offered in an abbreviated two-, three-, or four-year implementation depending on the school structure.

Students who complete the MYP are well-prepared for:

  • The IB Diploma Programme (DP)

  • The IB Career-related Programme (CP)

The MYP Curriculum

The MYP curriculum framework includes eight subject groups, ensuring students receive a broad and balanced education during early adolescence.

MYP Subject Groups
1. Language & Literature
2. Language Acquisition
3. Individuals & Societies
4. Sciences
5. Mathematics
6. Arts
7. Physical & Health Education
8. Design

Teaching Time Requirements

  • The MYP requires at least 50 hours of instruction per subject group, per year.

  • In the final two years, students may have flexibility within subject groups to meet:

    • Local requirements

    • Personal learning goals

This allows schools and students to tailor their learning while still applying the IB framework.

External Assessment and Recognition

In the final year of the MYP, students may participate in optional MYP eAssessment, which includes:

  • On-screen examinations

  • Coursework uploads (portfolios, projects, performances)

Students who complete eAssessment may receive:

  • MYP Course Results

  • The IB MYP Certificate

These assessments provide internationally recognized validation of student achievement.

Access and Eligibility

The MYP is designed to be inclusive, welcoming students aged 11–16 with diverse interests and academic abilities.

  • It is open to students only in schools authorized by the IB to offer the programme.

  • As a candidate school, Dagun International School is working to meet these standards.

  • The MYP can support both whole-school implementation or academically selective models.

Primary Years Programme (PYP)

Dagun International School — IB PYP Candidate School

Dagun International School is currently a Candidate School for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) supports learners aged 3–12, nurturing them as caring, active participants in a lifelong journey of learning. As a PYP Candidate School, Dagun International School is preparing to implement an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary curriculum that develops strong conceptual understanding and fosters the whole child.

What is the PYP?

The PYP uses a student-centered approach, encouraging children to explore, question, and build understanding through inquiry. It reflects the best in global educational research and the collective experience of IB World Schools.
The programme is recognized internationally as a leader in future-focused, holistic education, helping young learners respond to the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly changing world.

PYP Curriculum Framework

The PYP is built on the belief that students are agents of their own learning. It prioritizes relationships, well-being, and community to support a strong learning environment.

PYP students are encouraged to take initiative, reflect on their progress, and become responsible learners. Through inquiry, they develop essential knowledge, concepts, skills, and the IB Learner Profile attributes, empowering them to make meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond.

The curriculum emphasizes student agency, represented through three key pillars:

  • The Learner

  • Learning and Teaching

  • The Learning Community

The framework also emphasizes the importance of building each student’s self-efficacy—the confidence to take action in their learning and in the world around them.

Why Offer the PYP?

The PYP supports the development of the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and ethically. It provides a learning experience that is engaging, relevant, challenging, and significant, transforming students, teachers, and the school community.

PYP learners:

  • take ownership of their learning

  • collaborate with teachers to deepen understanding

  • build confidence and self-motivation

  • engage in continuous assessment and purposeful feedback

  • grow into effective, self-regulated learners

Learning is guided by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, allowing students to connect knowledge across, between, and beyond traditional subject areas.
